Kobus Pienaar

Kobus Pienaar has extensive work experience in various technical and leadership roles. Kobus is currently the Head of Technical Programme Delivery at IoT.nxt, where they oversee the successful delivery of complex and highly technical IoT programmes and solutions. Prior to this, they worked as the Cell Site Management Service Manager and the Intelligent Cell Solution Delivery Lead at IoT.nxt.

Before joining IoT.nxt, Kobus served as the Service and Support Director at Hexagon Mining, where they contributed to connecting all parts of a mine with technologies that enhance precision, accuracy, and safety. Kobus also worked as the CIO at Vedanta Zinc International, leading the IT operations for zinc assets in South Africa, Namibia, and Ireland.

Earlier in their career, Kobus held positions such as GM Information Technology at Wesizwe Platinum Limited, where they established the Information and Communication Department for the group, and Acting Chief Technical Officer and Director of Information Services at Bokamoso Private Hospital, where they managed technical departments and revived a failed IT department.

Kobus also gained experience as an IT Manager at Debswana Diamond Company, where they oversaw group IT infrastructure projects, and at Marconi Communications SA, where they played a key role in winning a Telkom ADSL contract.

Kobus started their career as a Junior Engineer at Gold Fields of South Africa and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the South African National Defence Force. Kobus holds a wealth of experience in technical project management, infrastructure management, and IT leadership.

Kobus Pienaar has a diverse education history. Kobus obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit between 1985 to 1991. Later, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc) in Strategic Management at the University of Derby from 2008 to 2009. In addition to their formal education, Kobus also holds various certifications in the field of IT and engineering, such as SCO ACE Certification from Unix academy and Certified Enterprise Network Engineer from Marconi Communications, USA.
