Brittany Anderton

Associate Director, Philanthropy Communications at Gladstone Institutes

Brittany Anderton, PhD, has a strong background in scientific communications and education. Brittany is currently working as the Associate Director of Philanthropy Communications at the Gladstone Institutes since May 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Scientific Communications Lead at Rarebase from March 2022 to April 2023.

From September 2018 to February 2022, Anderton worked as the Associate Director of iBiology at the Science Communication Lab. During their tenure, they produced videos on scientific discovery and developed curricular resources for STEM higher education. Additionally, they led evaluation efforts for higher education initiatives.

Before that, they served as a Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at California State University-Sacramento from September 2017 to December 2018. In this role, they led project-based learning on Genes and Disease for introductory biology students.

Anderton also has experience as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Davis, from September 2017 to September 2018. Brittany'sresearch focused on stakeholder perceptions of genome editing applications in agriculture. Brittany also served as a Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Davis from September 2015 to August 2017, studying student understanding of biotechnology and the representation of "GMO" as a search term online.

Brittany'sacademic journey began at the University of California, San Francisco, where they earned their PhD in the Biomedical Sciences Program. During this time, they conducted research on the role of the c-MYC oncogene in metabolic adaptation in liver cancer under the supervision of Dr. Andrei Goga.

Brittany Anderton, PhD earned their BA in Cell and Molecular Biology from Washington & Jefferson College in 2009. Brittany then pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cancer Biology and Cell Signaling at the University of California, San Francisco from 2009 to 2015. Following that, they completed their Postdoctoral Studies in STEM communication at the University of California, Davis from 2015 to 2018.
