Karen Washington

Karen Washington is a recipient of the James Beard Humanitarian Award and the 2014 James Beard Leadership Award. Karen is a co-founder and board member of Black Farmer Fund, co-founder of Black Urban Growers (BUGS), and co-owner of Let's Get Farming LLC. Karen is also a farmer and co-owner at Rise & Root Farm, and a co-founder of La Familia Verde. Karen holds a Certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physical Therapy from City University of New York-Hunter College, as well as a Master of Arts in Occupational biomechanics and ergonomics from New York University.
