Christopher Beames

Chris is a dispute resolution lawyer with over 15 years’ experience across a range of sectors including insolvency, financial products, energy, public utilities, defence, wine and workers compensation.

He assists clients with disputes and litigation in various forums and courts around Australia. With degrees in mathematics as well as law, Chris brings unique skills and experience to legal disputes involving complicated expert evidence and damages modelling and analysis.

Chris has acted for corporations, company directors, insolvency practitioners, regulated entities and regulators, and local government in various disputes and Court proceedings across a range of sectors including insolvency, financial products, defence and energy. He has represented clients in a number of representative proceedings (class actions) in the Federal and Supreme Courts, and in obtaining Federal Court approval for numerous schemes of arrangement under Part 5.1 of the Corporations Act.

His broad experience also includes general commercial and contractual disputes, insolvency litigation and recovery actions (acting for both liquidators and creditors), ASIC investigations and prosecutions, private price reviews and regulated utility price determinations, arbitrations and mediations, judicial review applications and administrative reviews by tribunals, and appeals.

Chris was recognised by Doyle’s Guide as a Leading Lawyer in Commercial Litigation & Dispute Resolution in 2020 (and as a Rising Star in 2015 and 2016).
