Reed Ellsworth has been working in the software engineering industry since 1993. Reed was the Founder and Principal Software Engineer at Diamond Edge from 1993 to 1995. From 1995 to 2005, they were a Senior Software Engineer at ViewSoft. At FamilySearch from 2005 to 2014, they were a Senior Software Engineer responsible for developing the full-stack for the desktop indexing client, the REST API for the FamilyTree server, and the GedcomX standard. Reed also wrote the Android library and sample apps that makes using the FamilySearch REST API easy on the Android platform. From 2014 to 2019, they were a Principal Software Engineer at Sling TV, leading the Android engineering team responsible for developing the client app for all of the Android-based devices for the internet based TV service. Reed was also responsible for the architecture and development, including the ability to ship the same apk for all devices. From 2019 to 2020, they were a Lead Android Engineer at Outcome Health, responsible for developing the Android kiosk devices that went into Doctors offices. In 2021, they became an Android Engineer at June, which was acquired by Weber-Stephen Products LLC. Additionally, they started a non-profit organization, Lighthouse Games, in 2020, to create board games with all revenue going to charities. All development is using Kotlin Multiplatform so it can be delivered on Android, iOS, desktop, and web. The first deliverable was an open-source kotlin multiplatform logging library (KmLogging).
Reed Ellsworth obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, a Master of Science (MS) degree in Artificial Intelligence in Mechanical Design from Brigham Young University, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer-Aided Engineering from Brigham Young University.
