Brett Heliker has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Brett currently works as a Software Engineering Manager at Kairos Aerospace since September 2022. Prior to this, they founded Gearbeta in 2020 and held the position of Founder.

Before founding Gearbeta, Brett worked as the Chief Belay Officer at Chalkd from October 2019 onwards. In this role, they used various techniques to provide support, coaching, and protection to the development of the chalkd.app.

In 2020, Brett also worked as a Solutions Architect at Modzy until July 2022. Brett joined Booz Allen Hamilton as an Executive Advisor in November 2020 and worked there until December 2021.

Brett has extensive experience at Uptake, where they held multiple roles. Brett started as a Senior Solutions Architect in October 2017 and continued in this position until October 2019. Additionally, they served as an IoT Architect, joining the company as an early engineer in February 2015. In this role, they directed hardware design and production, sensor integration, and networking. Brett also led R&D and special projects teams, rapidly prototyped and completed proof-of-concept implementations across various verticals.

Before joining Uptake, Brett was the CTO and Founder of Petiole Labs from November 2014 to July 2016. Brett worked as a Senior Research Engineer at SRI International from June 2004 to November 2014. In this role, they coordinated interactions between disparate systems and worked on a wide range of projects involving embedded systems, hardware design, algorithmic analysis, data visualization, geospatial technologies, and more.

Brett also has teaching experience as a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at Cal Poly State University from June 2003 to December 2004. Brett began their career as the Web Editor and Technology Manager at Mustang Daily, where they were responsible for the web presence, PHP development, database maintenance, layout and design, and hardware setup.

Brett Heliker obtained a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, where they studied from 1999 to 2004. Additionally, they earned a certification in "Building Tools with Python" from LinkedIn in March 2020.
