Ellen Bertels

Ellen Bertels is a Skadden Fellow at Kansas Legal Services, Inc. since September 2021, bringing extensive legal experience from various organizations. Prior positions include an intern at ACLU of Kansas, a licensed student attorney at Douglas County Legal Aid Society, a democracy intern at Brennan Center for Justice, and a legal extern at the Federal Public Defender for the District of Kansas. Additional roles include a 1L summer fellow at ACLU of Kansas, an administrative assistant at McAnany Van Cleave & Phillips Law Firm, and an intern at Mainstream Coalition. Ellen Bertels earned a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of Kansas School of Law (2018-2021) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Italian from The University of Kansas (2013-2017). Prior education includes a high school diploma from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, KS (2009-2013).
