Gary Kilmister FBCS has over 30 years of work experience, with a strong background in data centre management and compliance. Gary is currently working as the Compliance Director at Kao Data since April 2022. Prior to this, they served as a DC Council Member at techUK starting from April 2017.
From 2012 to 2022, Gary held various roles at Pulsant, including Head of DC Compliance and Head of Data Centres. In these positions, they managed the business Data Centre Estate, oversaw facilities management and physical security, handled OPEX and CAPEX management, and negotiated AMC contracts. Gary also established relationships with customers and contractors, worked on compliance implementation and audits, and implemented new procedures across the estate.
Before joining Pulsant, Gary worked at Tata Communications as the Regional Head of Data Centres and as a Data Centre Manager from 2009 to 2012. Gary also has experience as a Police Officer at Derbyshire Constabulary, where they worked as part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team and assisted in training regular and special constables. During this time, they also worked as a Data Centre Manager, aligning their two careers.
Gary began their career at Internet Facilitators Ltd (IFL) as a Data Centre and Operations Manager, focusing on growing the data centre business while continuing their work in the police force. Gary headed a 24/7 support team for daily operations. Prior to IFL, they worked as an Operations Manager at Frontline Consultancy & Business Services and as the Head of Systems at Dowco Group of Companies.
Gary Kilmister FBCS has a diverse education history spanning over several years. In 1999, they obtained a Professional Server Specialist certification from IBM. In the following year, 2000, they became a Certified Specialist in x-Series from IBM as well. In 2001, Gary received training in Domino Administration from Lotus. Moving forward, in 2003, they pursued CCNA - 1.8 MetaFrame from CITRIX, and in 2005, they obtained a CCNA certification in Metaframe XP Presentation Server also from CITRIX.
Continuing with their education, in 2009, Gary attended QMS to obtain a degree in ISO9000 with a specialization in Internal Auditing. In 2012, they acquired an ITIL v3 Foundation degree from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.
From 2008 to 2021, Gary was enrolled in BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, acquiring a Professional Membership. During this time, they also joined TECHUK as a Member in 2015 and became a Datacentre Council Member in 2018.
Lastly, in 2014, Gary became an Individual Member of the Green Grid, a membership that they maintained until 2021. In 2021, they were awarded a Fellowship degree from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.
