Prof Dr Sunil Kumar Joshi has extensive work experience in the field of public health, occupational health, and medical education.
Starting from 2023, they will serve as the President of the Society of Public Health Physicians Nepal (SOPHPHYN). Prof Dr Sunil Kumar will also hold the position of Country Lead Investigator for the NIHR HIPCARE RIGHT Programme at the University of Oxford, NDORMS.
In 2018, they joined the University of the West of England as the Co-Director of the NIHR SAFE TrIP Nepal project and as a Visiting Professor. Prof Dr Sunil Kumar also became the Nepal Director of the Nepal Injury Research Centre.
Prior to that, Prof Dr Joshi worked at the Kathmandu Medical College, where they held various positions including Chief of the International Collaboration Division, Chairperson of the Institutional Review Committee (IRC), and Head of the Department of Community Medicine. Prof Dr Sunil Kumar also served as a Professor, Vice Principal, Associate Professor, and Lecturer in Community Medicine at the institution.
Prof Dr Joshi has also been involved with international organizations such as the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), where they served as a Board Member and National Secretary. Prof Dr Sunil Kumar is a Member of the World Association of Medical Editors and has served as the Chief Editor of the International Journal of Occupational Safety and Health (IJOSH) since 2011.
Additionally, they have been the Director of the Nepal Injury Research Centre and the Nepal Director of the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Nepal Injury Research.
In 2012, Prof Dr Joshi joined WebMedCentral as the Lead Faculty in Public Health, responsible for post-publication peer review.
Prof Dr Sunil Kumar Joshi's education history is as follows:
- From 2013 to 2013, Prof Dr Sunil Kumar Joshi studied Diabetology at the American Diabetes Association (ADA), completing a Course on Diabetes Management.
- Prof Dr Sunil Kumar pursued a Post Doctoral Fellowship in Ethnic, Cultural Minority, Gender, and Group Studies from 2010 to 2011 at Linköping University.
- In 2010, they obtained a Certificate in Occupational Health Crossing Borders from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
- Prof Dr Joshi earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Diabetology (PGDD) in Diabetes from Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation - University, studying from 2009 to 2010.
- From 2007 to 2009, they completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health and Community Medicine at KSMA Center for Postgraduate Medical Education.
- In 2009, they also obtained a Certificate in Particles and Health from Lund University.
- Prof Dr Joshi received a Certificate in Scientific English Language Training/English Language and Culture Institute from UAB College of Arts & Sciences in 2007.
- Additionally, in 2007, they completed a Certificate in International Public Health/International Health from UAB School of Public Health at the International Public Health Summer Institute.
- Prof Dr Sunil Kumar obtained a Master of Philosophy (M Phil) in Occupational Medicine from the University of Bergen (UiB), studying from 2000 to 2002.
- In 2002, they received a Certificate from the University of Oslo (UiO) in Metabolic Syndrome and Diabetes from the Department of General Practice and Community Medicine.
- Prof Dr Joshi also earned a Certificate in Immunology from the Broegelmann Research Laboratory at UiB in 2001-2002.
- Prof Dr Sunil Kumar holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in General Medicine from Tajik Avicenna State Medical University, which they obtained from 1989 to 1996.
- In 1985-1987, they studied Biological Sciences and received a PCL Biology degree from Tribhuvan University.
- Prof Dr Joshi completed their high school education at Siddhartha Vanasthali from 1974 to 1984, obtaining an SLC degree.
