Dr. Karel J. Zuzak has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biomedical engineering and medical imaging. Dr. Karel J. is currently working as a Senior Medical Scientist at Kent Imaging since March 2021. Prior to this, they served as the Director at LBI-51, The Laboratory of Biomedical Imaging and Engineering, LLC, where they focused on visualizing diseases to reduce the risk and cost of medical practice.
Dr. Zuzak has also worked as an Associate Faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center, starting in June 2011. During their time there, they specialized in developing and commercializing hyperspectral imaging systems and spectral deconvolution methodologies for clinical and surgical utilities.
Before joining UT Southwestern, Dr. Zuzak worked as a Senior Principal Scientist & Research Engineer at Digital Light Innovations, DLi, where they directed the future of medical imaging by engineering biomedical concepts and translating medical devices to market. Dr. Karel J. was also a Principal Investigator at Texas Instruments and held various faculty positions at the University of Texas at Arlington & Southwestern.
Dr. Zuzak's work experience also includes serving as a Post Doc Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and working as a Grad Student at the University of Minnesota (UMN). Throughout their career, they have demonstrated expertise in developing and translating surgical guidance systems, hyperspectral imaging techniques, and medical devices to aid clinicians in disease detection and diagnosis.
Dr. Karel J. Zuzak has obtained an Executive Certificate in PMP from Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management. Dr. Karel J. also holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Bioengineering, AMES (Applied Mechanical and Engineering Sciences) from UC San Diego. Additionally, Dr. Zuzak has earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Biomedical Engineering & Physics from the University of Minnesota. Lastly, they have achieved a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences & Exercise Physiology from the University of Minnesota as well.
