Steven Dawson

Steven has specialised exclusively in the complex area of Cost Litigation for 32 years. He primarily deals with cases involving commercial disputes, personal injury and solicitor and client matters. Steven also provides training, advice and assistance to solicitors, insurance companies and commercial clients in relation to all aspects of costs, including Conditional Fee Agreements, Collective Conditional Fee Agreements, retainers, challenging third-party costs, minimising third-party costs and time recording. Where necessary he prepares Bills of Costs, Points of Dispute, Replies to Points of Dispute, Joint Statements, Skeleton Argument and undertakes advocacy in relation to the above matters. Steven conducted the first reported Court of Appeal case, Spencer v Wood, where the validity of the claimant's Conditional Fee Agreement was successfully challenged despite the findings in the previous landmark case of Hollins v Russell. Steven has acted for all major insurance companies and is an active member of the FOIL Special Sector Focus Group on Costs.
