Dr Shobha Ananda Reddy is an environmental specialist, with over 21 years of diverse experience in teaching, capacity building, research, practice, and advocacy, spanning environment, ecology and sustainability, renewable energy, integrated water management, participatory governance, and community building.
During her 12 years of work at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, as Assistant Professor, Environmental Science, she initiated and led several research and development activities at the Centre for Scientific Research & Advanced Learning and served as member of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell.
As Additional Director-Environment, Energy & Biofuels at Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Energy & Development, Bangalore she initiated and led several projects of environment and social relevance such as Remote Village Electrification, Solid Waste Management and Integrated Water Management in rural areas.
As a Senior Consultant, Urban Practitioners’ Programme, Indian Institute for Human Settlements, she directed courses and curated content for municipal officials (Engineering and Public Health) of different states of India on Urban Missions of the Government of India.
She has founded Trust for Rejuvenation of Environment and Nature Development (TREND) through which, since 2016, several initiatives such as providing solar home lighting to homes located in remote areas, providing education to government school children, solid waste management and environmental sustainability awareness programs are being taken up to serve the underprivileged.
She is a cofounder of CITAG (Citizen Involved Technology Assisted Governance) through which technical, managerial and leadership skills of citizens are being used to enhance governance systems. She was instrumental in forming the citizen group ‘Jalmitra – Guardians of Rachenahalli lake’ which has been working with various stakeholders to revive and maintain Rachenahalli lake, Srirampura, Bangalore.
She served as Officer on Special Duty to Additional Chief Secretary, Panchayat Raj, RDPR Department, Government of Karnataka as part of the Indian Administrative Fellowship facilitated by the Nudge Institute.
She also served as a member of the Western Ghats Task Force, Government of Karnataka. She is a NABET -QCI accredited Environmental Consultant for carrying out EIAs in the development sector.
She is the recipient of the Environmental Scientist of the Year-2013 Award from the National Environmental Science Academy; the Ekal Award for Women Achievers-2020 from Tribal Society of India; Bengaluru Women Achievers Award-2022 from B.PAC-BCLIP Alumni association, and the Woman Achiever of the Year-2023 by Forum for Women Entrepreneurs.
