Megan M. McKenna has a diverse work experience. Megan M. started their career as a Writer at the US Fund for UNICEF in 1997 and worked there until 2002. From 2000 to 2001, they served as a Freelance writer for UNIFEM. In 2002, they joined the Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children as a Sr Coordinator, Media and Communications, and held the position until 2007. In 2007, they worked as a Co-author at Random House, where they co-wrote the book "The Translator" with Dennis Burke. In 2008, they joined Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders as a Communications Advisor and worked there until 2009. Their most recent role was at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), where they started as the Communications and Advocacy Director in 2009 and became the Senior Director of Communications and Public Engagement in 2017.
Megan M. McKenna holds a BA in English from the University of Michigan, which they attained between 1986 and 1990. Prior to this, they obtained their HS Diploma from Stuyvesant High School between 1982 and 1986. Later, they pursued an MIA degree from Columbia | SIPA, attending from 1995 to 1997. In 2019, they also obtained a Certificate in Public Narrative: Leadership, Storytelling, and Action Program from Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education.
