Matthew Fleetwood has extensive work experience in materials engineering, primarily in the civil engineering sector. Matthew has held various roles over the years, starting in 1996 as an Engineer's Assistant at Costain.

From 1997 to 2002, they worked for Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Ltd, where they served as a Materials Technician and later as Deputy Quality Manager/Senior Technician. In these roles, they were responsible for routine testing of materials and managing laboratory quality systems.

In 2002, Fleetwood joined Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Ltd again and continued to excel in their career. Matthew served as a Laboratory Manager, overseeing laboratory quality systems and managing a team of up to nine staff. Matthew then moved on to positions of increasing responsibility as Materials Engineer, overseeing various infrastructure projects, including the construction of Heathrow Airport's new satellite building and major road widening projects.

In 2013, they joined Balfour Beatty Major Civil Engineering (BBMCE) as a Materials Engineer before transitioning to Kier Group in 2014. At Kier Group, they held the roles of Senior Materials Engineer and Principal Materials Engineer, where they provided materials engineering support for major civil engineering projects such as the Mersey Gateway bridge project and the construction of the first new build nuclear power station in a generation.
