Esa Hynynen is a specialist in sports physiology at the Finnish Institute of High Performance Sport KIHU, with experience dating back to January 2012. Additionally, Esa holds a position as a sports researcher at KIHU - Research Institute for Olympic Sports since November 1998, and recently completed a PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Jyväskylä, defending the thesis on heart rate variability and stress in February 2011. Esa has also served as a coach for the Finnish Skiing Association from May 1997 to May 2004, initially as a regional coach for junior cross-country skiers and subsequently as a coach for the national "B-team" of junior athletes.
