Riaan Carstens has a diverse work experience in the engineering field. Riaan started their career at Thomas Foundry as a Methods Engineer in 2014. Riaan then moved on to Hydra Arc, where they worked as a Junior Mechanical Engineer from 2014 to 2016. During this time, they were involved in designing and fabricating stainless steel water tanks and working on the CTFE project for Sasol Secunda.
In 2016, Riaan continued their journey at Hydra-arc as a Mechanical Engineer for a brief period. Riaan later rejoined the company in 2017 and worked until 2017 as a Mechanical Engineer. At Hydra Arc, they gained experience in managing gasification and coal processing maintenance at Sasol Secunda. Riaan also served as the Divisional Engineering Manager, responsible for coordinating yearly shutdowns, budget control, and manpower allocation.
In 2020, Riaan joined Anglo American as a Project Manager and worked until 2022. In this role, they successfully managed projects and contributed to the company's overall success.
Most recently, Riaan Carstens joined Kirby Group Engineering in 2022 as a Mechanical Engineer.
Riaan Carstens completed their education at the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria. From 2010 to 2013, they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later, they continued their studies at the same institution and obtained a B.Eng Mechanical Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2016 to 2017.
In addition to their formal education, Riaan Carstens has pursued various certifications. In October 2021, they obtained the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute. Prior to that, in July 2021, they completed the PMP Exam Prep Project Management Professional Certification course from Udemy. Furthermore, in October 2020, they completed a certification in engineering Project Management from Rice University.
