Shampa Bhattacharya is a Partner in the Indirect tax practice of the Firm.
Shampa has decade and a half of post-qualification experience in corporate and civil law with exclusive specialization of more than ten years in the domain of indirect taxes. She has worked extensively in the field of Customs, Goods & Services Tax (‘GST’), erstwhile Service tax, Excise laws, Value Added Taxes, Foreign Trade Policy, Special Economic Zones and other ancillary indirect tax laws.
Prior to joining Kochhar & Co., Shampa has extensive experience of having worked with two of the Big 4 international consultancy firms namely Deloitte and Ernst & Young in the indirect tax practice in Delhi and Gurugram. Her experience includes advising large multinational (MNC) and Indian companies on a wide range of indirect tax matters including structuring of transactions by devising tax efficient models, identifying potential revenue and tax leakages in existing operations and providing feasible remedies.
She has been associated in advisory, litigation, diagnostic reviews, due diligence and compliance services for clients in education, power, pharmaceutical, hospitality, online information data access retrieval services, medical, automobile sector, defence, oil & gas, aviation, retail, telecom, information technology, manufacturing industry and other service sectors. Shampa has been actively involved in rendering policy advocacy support as an alternative to tax litigations by reaching out to policy makers / tax authorities to pre-empt any business disruption. She has argued and represented clients in original and appellate proceedings before various Tribunals in Delhi and Haryana.
Shampa has contributed in writing for financial express daily newspaper, Wolters & Kluwer and for tax journals on various Indirect tax issues.
