Michael Wharton is currently a Principal Machine Learning Engineer and Associate Director at KUNGFU.AI. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Test Development Engineer at SpaceX from February 2014 to May 2017, where they organized and drove efforts to expedite Falcon 9 production rate in Texas using design as well as lean manufacturing principles. Michael also worked as a Ground Systems Engineering Intern at SpaceX from June 2013 to August 2013, where they designed and managed build-up of fluid systems and structures related to development testing of SuperDraco. In April 2018, they became an Engineering Scientist Associate at Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin, where they worked until June 2019. Michael began their career as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin, from June 2011 to December 2013.

Michael Wharton completed a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical/Space Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Michael later obtained certification from Google as a Google Cloud Certified Professional Machine Learning Engineer and a Google Cloud Certified Professional Data Engineer.

They are on a team with Spencer Romo - Principal Machine Learning Engineer, Krishi Sharma - Software Engineer, and Max Marion - Machine Learning Engineer. Michael Wharton reports to Ron Green, Chief Technology Officer.
