Ferhat Ay is an Associate Professor at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology, with tenure beginning in January 2016. In addition to this role, Ferhat holds the position of Institute Leadership Assistant Professor of Computational Biology. Previous academic appointments include Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of California San Diego and Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Ferhat's research focuses on developing computational methods for analyzing next-generation sequencing data and modeling genome architecture, with particular interest in chromatin organization and its implications for gene regulation in diseases such as cancer and malaria. Ferhat earned a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering, has a background as a Visiting Student at MIT, and holds dual B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Computer Engineering from Middle East Technical University.
