Mehdi Benkahla

Mehdi Benkahla, Ph.D., currently serves as an Instructor and Postdoctoral Fellow at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology, where research focuses on autoimmune diseases, particularly type 1 diabetes (T1D). Key responsibilities include performing immunohistochemistry on human pancreas tissues, culturing live pancreas slices, and analyzing the effects of Coxsackievirus B3 on insulin secretion. Additionally, Mehdi collaborates with Novo Nordisk on preclinical studies and has published two manuscripts in the Journal of Autoimmunity. Prior experience includes roles as Executive Editor for the Journal of Life Sciences and Research Engineer at Host-Pathogen Translational Research. Mehdi's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Virology and a master's degree in Microbiology, with a strong emphasis on cellular and viral interactions through various experimental techniques.
