Luis Miguel Silva

Luis Miguel Silva has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple industries and roles. Luis Miguel started their career as a Software Developer at INESC Porto and then moved on to work as a Security Advisor at Normetro, A.C.E., where they developed services and applications to detect network abuses. Luis Miguel also rerouted the network and implemented Linux router servers with QoS to improve network communications.

After that, Luis worked as a Senior Systems Administrator at the Instituto Superior Politécnico Gaya, where they managed systems administration tasks. Luis Miguel then joined Escola Secundária Inês de Castro as a Senior System/Network Administrator, where they architected the network and optimized the school's internet circuits.

In 2007, Luis joined Adaptive Computing Enterprises as the Lead Architect for Cloud and Adaptive HPC. Luis Miguel researched common practices and requirements, productized the company's first Cloud Product, and worked closely with Microsoft's HPC 2008 Product and Development teams. Luis Miguel also developed the Adaptive HPC Product, allowing customers to bundle Windows and Linux systems in the same cluster.

From 2008 to 2009, Luis worked as an Information Security Manager at Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto. Luis Miguel created a Computer Security Incident Response Team, developed partnerships with other CSIRT teams, and reverse-engineered attacks on core servers.

In 2011, Luis joined Adaptive Computing as a CTO Engineer, where they guided the company on long-term technical strategy and vision. Luis Miguel also created a prototype for the Dynamic Cloud Stack product and conducted advisory reports and performance benchmarks.

Later, Luis became the Senior Director of Product Management and Engineering at Adaptive Computing, where they led efforts to refocus product strategy to high-performance computing. Luis Miguel directed UX development, researched in the fields of Big Data and Software Defined Services, and aligned roadmaps and architectures to findings. Luis Miguel also created a 2-year roadmap for the company and developed a standardized planning process.

Currently, Luis is the VP of Product and Engineering at Labworks LLC, responsible for the Engineering team and overseeing product planning, development, quality assurance, and documentation. Luis Miguel also manages international development teams and the organization's support team, working on the development of Microsoft and Opensource based software.

Luis Miguel Silva obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Politecnico Gaya, which they attended from 2001 to 2008. Before that, they completed their Computer Technician degree at Colégio de Gaia from 1997 to 2000. In addition to their formal education, Luis Miguel Silva has also obtained several certifications in their field. In 2014, they completed the Big Data Solutions Training from Third Eye Consulting Services & Solutions LLC. Luis Miguel also completed the Practical Product Management with requirements that work program from Pragmatic Marketing in 2012 and the Certified ScrumMaster Course from Scrum Alliance in 2011.
