Venu Talla's work experience begins in 2001 with a summer internship at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology. In 2002, they completed an M.Sc. dissertation at the University of Calicut. From 2002 to 2008, they worked at the LV Prasad Eye Institute and the University of Hyderabad, where they obtained a PhD by studying the molecular phenotyping of mutant gamma-crystallins associated with congenital cataract. During this time, they also investigated the neuroprotective effects of natural compounds derived from Indian ayurvedic medicinal plants.
In 2008, they joined the University of Virginia Health System as a Post Doctoral Associate before moving to the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine in 2010, where they continued their research on mitochondrial dysfunction and its role in neuronal degeneration in animal models of Multiple Sclerosis and Optic Neuritis. Venu utilized various imaging and analysis techniques and explored gene therapy and genome editing approaches to counter the degeneration and induce regeneration.
In 2015, Venu Talla started working at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute as an Assistant Scientist, focusing on studying mitochondrial dysfunction and axonal regeneration using interdisciplinary approaches. Venu'sresearch involved in vivo and in vitro experiments and included the use of Electrophsiology, OCT, MRI, CSLO imaging, Confocal and TEM imaging, and proteomic analysis.
Venu Talla's most recent position, starting in 2020, is at Lacerta Therapeutics. Venu initially worked as a Senior Scientist before becoming a Principal Scientist in 2021. Currently, they serve as the Director of Capsid Engineering.
Overall, Venu Talla has gained extensive experience and expertise in the fields of mitochondrial dysfunction, neurodegenerative diseases, gene therapy, and genome editing throughout their career.
Venu Talla's education history starts with completing a Teacher Training Course (TTC) at the District Institute of Education and Training in 1996. Following that, from 1996 to 1999, Talla pursued a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Botany, and Chemistry from Osmania University.
In 2000, Talla joined the University of Calicut, where they obtained a Master's degree in Biotechnology, which was completed in 2002. Finally, from 2002 to 2008, Talla pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology at the University of Hyderabad.
