Benjamin Fields has a wealth of work experience in data science and analytics. Benjamin began their career in 2010 as a Research Assistant at Goldsmiths, University of London, where they worked on modelling methods and workflows used in music information retrieval tasks. In 2011, they took on the role of Data Analysis Engineer at musicmetric, where they were responsible for third party data ingestion and aggregation, identity mapping, time series analysis, social network analytics and dev community management. In 2013, they became a Co-Founder of In Our Cellar and a Freelance Research and Consulting, doing data science and analytics for hire. That same year, they also took on the role of Postdoctoral Researcher at Goldsmiths, University of London. In 2016, they became a Lead Data Scientist and Data Scientist at FutureLearn. In 2018, they moved to BBC News as a Lead Data Scientist. In 2019, they joined BBC as a Lead Data Scientist, Digital Publishing, leading a team of data scientists and data engineers to build models and tools to better understand the content production process. In 2022, they are set to take on the role of Head of Data at Laka.
Benjamin Fields received their PhD in Computer Science from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2011, their MS in Music Engineering Technology from the University of Miami in 2006, and their BS in Computer Engineering with a minor in Electronic Music Composition from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2004.
