Tanya Carter has extensive work experience in the education sector. Tanya started their career in 1994 as a General Education Teacher at Cicero District 99 and later became a Special Education Teacher at the same district. In 2003, they joined J. S. Morton High School District 201 as a Special Education Staffing Facilitator and later became the Director of Special Education. In 2009, they transitioned to Lansing School District 158, where they served as the Principal of Lester Crawl School before taking on the role of Director of Student Services. Tanya then became the Executive Director of Student Services and is currently the Executive Director of Human Resources at Lansing School District 158. Throughout their career, Tanya has worn many hats within a school district, including teacher, facilitator, principal, and director, allowing their to make a positive impact on students at various stages of their education. Tanya'sleadership style is described as collegial, and they lead by example.
Tanya Carter has a diverse education history with a focus on educational leadership and administration. Tanya began their educational journey at Moraine Valley Community College, where they obtained an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities in 1991. Tanya then enrolled at Governors State University, where they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Teaching between 1991 and 1994.
Tanya continued their education at Governors State University and obtained two Master's Degrees. From 1997 to 1999, they studied Multicategorical Special Education, and from 2000 to 2002, they pursued Educational Administration and Supervision. Following their Master's degrees, Tanya attended Northern Illinois University, where they obtained an Educational Specialist Degree in Superintendency and Educational System Administration from 2005 to 2008. Tanya furthered their education at Northern Illinois University and completed a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Administration, General from 2008 to 2016.
In terms of additional certifications, Tanya attained the titles of Certified School Business Official (CSBO) and Superintendent from the Illinois State Board of Education in January 2021 and May 2008, respectively. Tanya also obtained the certification of Director of Special Education from the Illinois State Board of Education in February 2003. Most recently, in June 2023, Tanya obtained the SHRM - Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification from SHRM and the Certified ALICE Instructor certification from Navigate360 in August 2022.
