Dr. Johnathan Holladay has worked in renewable fuels and chemicals for the last 20 years. Prior to joining LanzaTech, he was at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) where he oversaw PNNL’s sustainable transportation portfolio that includes renewable fuels and chemicals, batteries, hydrogen, materials, and transportation systems. Dr. Holladay was the founding Co-Director of the Bioproducts Institute with Washington State University and an Associate Director of PNNL’s Institute for Integrated Catalysis. Dr. Holladay has led numerous collaborations across U.S. national laboratories, academia, and industry. His research interests center on seeking solutions for the sustainable use of carbon where carbon will be required in the economy and the opportunities for electrification are limited, one example is Sustainable Aviation Fuel. In the Bioproducts Institute he set a vision for developing the science needed to transform waste carbon that today presents an environmental challenge, hence using carbon pollution as a resource while providing environmental services. The opportunity to help move LanzaTech’s carbon recycling mission forward is his passion today. Dr. Holladay received a B.S. in Chemistry from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has over 60 publications and U.S. patents.
