Maksims Volkovs

Maksims Volkovs has worked in various roles throughout their career. In 2010, they started as a Researcher at Microsoft, where they worked until 2011. Following that, they joined Credit Suisse as a Quantitative Analyst from 2011 to 2012. In 2013, they co-founded Layer 6 AI and served as the Head of Machine Learning until the company was acquired by TD Bank Group. From 2018, Volkovs worked at TD as the SVP and Chief AI Scientist, leading a team of 70 researchers and engineers. Maksims oversaw the successful development and deployment of AI models across all major lines of business, resulting in a multi-million dollar impact to the bottom line. Volkovs also conducted cutting-edge research with publications in top AI venues. In 2020, they became a Board Member at The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences.

Maksims Volkovs earned their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Statistics and Computer Science from the University of Toronto, where they attended from 2003 to 2007. Maksims then pursued their Master of Science (MSc) degree in Machine Learning at the same university, completing their studies from 2007 to 2009. Continuing their education, Maksims went on to obtain their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Machine Learning, also from the University of Toronto, where they studied from 2009 to 2013.
