Tom graduated from Wagner College in 1983, where he was a member of the Men’s Division I Basketball and Golf teams. He began his career at Deloitte & Touche, a large public accounting and consulting firm before moving to the floor of the American Stock Exchange as a member for Drexel Burnham Lambert. Mr. Mahala left the floor of the AMEX to join Bear Stearns’ Prime Brokerage team in the early 90’s and returned in 2001 after a brief stint as an institutional equity salesman and later as a Director in the Capital Markets consulting practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Tom re-joined Bear Stearns to pioneer the firms Hedge Fund Relationship Management team, known as ‘Calling Officers’.
Tom personally covered many of Bears’ top 25 hedge fund relationships that represented approximately $250 billion in AUM. Tom left Bear Stearns in 2007 to join Banc of America Securities to lead the Hedge Fund Senior Relationship Management team. Mr. Mahala moved to BNP Paribas after its 2008 acquisition of Banc of America’s prime brokerage business.
