Anna Kurien

Legal Director, Civil Rights & Racial Justice Program at Legal Aid Justice Center

Anna Kurien currently serves as the Legal Director for the Civil Rights and Racial Justice Program at the Legal Aid Justice Center, focusing on addressing the criminalization of poverty in Virginia. Previously, Anna held the position of Senior Legal Counsel at The Justice Collaborative/The Appeal, where strategic campaigns for criminal justice reform were developed and implemented. Anna's early career included a significant tenure as a Senior Staff Attorney with the Fulton County Public Defender, defending over 1200 clients and representing those convicted of serious offenses in appellate courts. Anna holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from Emory University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in English and French from Wellesley College, along with an International Baccalaureate Diploma from UWC Mahindra College.
