Xander Karsten has held a variety of roles in the legal sector since 2004. Xander has worked for Legal Assistance of Western New York as an Americorps Paralegal, Housing Opportunities Made Equal as a Fair Housing Specialist and Law Student Intern, Prisoners' Legal Services of New York as a Law Student Intern, Norton, Hoover, Radin and Freedman as a Law Student Intern, University at Buffalo as a Housing and Economic Development Clinic Research Assistant, International Justice Network as a Human Rights Fellow, Empire Justice Center as an Institute for Foreclosure Legal Assistance Fellow, Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. (LawNY) as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow, Pro Bono Net as a LawHelp Program Coordinator, and LegalServer as the Director of Onboarding and Projects.

Xander Karsten obtained a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy of Politics and Law from Binghamton University in 2004. Xander then attended the University at Buffalo, where they earned a Doctor of Law (J.D.) in Public Interest Law in 2008. In 2014, they received a Verified Certificate from Coursera for The Data Scientist’s Toolbox. In 2010, they were admitted to the United States District Court, Western District of New York. In 2009, they were admitted to practice law in New York State. In 2006, they obtained a Barista Certificate from Seattle Best Coffee. In 2022, they are expected to complete a Project Management Certificate from Cornell University.
