Michael Schmid has a diverse work experience in the field of marine research and aquatic ecology. Michael started their career as a research professional at the Institute for Polar Ecology, Kiel University in 1990 and later joined the Alfred Wegener Institute of Polar and Marine Research AWI as a research scientist. In 2000, they founded their own company, H2O Aquatic Ecology, where they served as the owner until 2014. During this time, they also worked as a senior marine biologist for PT. Hatfield Indonesia, conducting biological baseline studies in various regions. Since 2014, they have been the head of the Scientific Diving Centre at Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research, where they manage all diving activities and conducts research.
Michael Schmid obtained their PhD in Biological Oceanography from Kiel University, attending from 1983 to 1989.
