Cary Penniman

Cary Penniman has extensive work experience in the software engineering field. They have held various roles in different companies throughout their career.

Starting in 1997, Cary worked at Motion Engineering Inc. as a Sr. Software Design Engineer. They were responsible for designing and maintaining real-time embedded algorithms for robotics control, as well as implementing a proprietary network protocol for motion control.

From 2005 to 2009, Cary worked at Accsense, Inc. as a Sr. Software Engineer. They focused on Java web application development, specifically designing a real-time data-collection and monitoring application for wireless sensor networks. They also performed Linux system administration and utilized test driven development practices.

At RightScale, Cary held multiple roles from 2009 to 2014. As a Sr. Software Developer, they were the tech lead for a Linux DevOps team and responsible for developing automation for PaaS deployment stacks. They also worked as a Software Architect, collaborating with stakeholders and developers to bring solutions to the RightScale Cloud Management Platform.

Between 2014 and 2019, Cary worked at LevelCredit. As Chief Architect, they managed and coded the migration of production workloads to the cloud and scaled rental data ingestion and credit reporting service volume. They also served as the VP of Engineering, overseeing engineering operations across multiple time zones and countries.

Most recently, Cary joined Self Financial, Inc. in 2022 as a Distinguished Software Architect. Their responsibilities include delivering product value, integrating teams, reducing manual workload through machine learning, and managing the DevOps team.

Throughout their career, Cary has demonstrated expertise in various technologies such as Ruby, EventMachine, ProtocolBuffers, RabbitMQ, Chef, and Ubuntu. They have also prioritized continuous integration, system administration, and security controls to maintain infrastructure compliance.
