Alexander Sugar, PhD has a long work experience history, beginning in 2007 as a Lab Technician at Whitman College Language Learning Center. In 2008, they worked as a Private English Tutor and English Teacher through Whitman in China Fellowship at Xibei Gongye University. From 2012 to 2014, they held the roles of Research Assistant, Instructor, Teaching Assistant, and Grader at the University of Washington, Department of Linguistics and Department of Asian Languages & Literature. From 2012 to 2017, they completed their Master of Arts - MA in Linguistics from the same university. In 2016, they were a visiting student at Fudan University in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. In 2013, they attended the Central Eurasian Studies Summer Studies Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying Uyghur. In 2010-2011, they attended the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua University, studying Mandarin Chinese. Alexander completed their Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Spanish Language & Literature with Honors, Anthropology from Whitman College in 2008. In 2007, they attended the School of Anthropology at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán. In 2003-2004, they attended the Centro de Educación Media, #38.
