Xavier Maes

Xavier Maes has extensive work experience in the legal field. From 2004 to 2007, they worked as an Associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Xavier then joined Linklaters as an Associate from 2008 to 2010. Xavier went on to work as a Legal Counsel at RHJ International from 2010 to 2012. Xavier then joined Galapagos as General Counsel in 2012, a role they held until 2021. Following this, Xavier took a sabbatical from 2021 to 2022. In 2022, they started working as the General Counsel at Leyden Labs.

Xavier Maes has a strong background in law, with a focus on corporate and commercial law. Xavier obtained their LLM degree in Corporate & Commercial Law from the University of New South Wales in 2008. Prior to that, Xavier completed an LLM degree in Economic Law from Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2004. Xavier also holds an LLM degree from Université catholique de Louvain, which was completed between 2000 and 2003. Xavier began their academic journey in law by achieving a LLB degree from Université de Namur from 1998 to 2000. Xavier completed their secondary education at Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege from 1992 to 1998.
