John Owen has a diverse work experience in the medical field. John started their career as a Family Physician/Emergency Physician at The Liberty Clinic in 1988 and continued in this role until 2013. John also worked as a Flight Surgeon and held various leadership positions in the Air National Guard from 1988 to 2012. In 2009, they became a Brigadier General and served as the Air National Assistant to the Air Mobility Command Command Surgeon. John later joined the Missouri National Guard as the Director of the Joint Staff from 2008 to 2012. From 2012 to 2013, they worked as an Emergency Physician at Liberty Emergency Physicians. In 2014, they became the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Heartland Regional Medical Center and held this role until 2018. Currently, they are the Vice President for Emergency Services at Liberty Hospital.
John Owen attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 1975 to 1981, where they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Medicine. John then pursued a Family Practice Residency at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa Medical College from 1981 to 1984. John Owen is also board certified by the AMERICAN BOARD OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE FOUNDATION and holds medical licenses from the State of Missouri, State of Texas, and the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts. Additionally, they retired as a Brigadier General from the United States Air Force.
