John Smerek

John Smerek has a diverse range of work experience spanning over two decades. John currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Lineten since 2020. Prior to this role, they held the position of Global CTO at TruRating from 2015 to 2020, where they led technical teams to deliver services globally and was responsible for various aspects of business transformation, program and project management, and data analysis, among others.

Before joining TruRating, John worked at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) from 2008 to 2015 as the Lead Technical Consultant for the implementation of the PRESTO card across transportation authorities in the Greater Toronto Area.

John also has experience in consultancy, having served as the President/CTO at Inkovate from 2008 to 2015 and at Innovative Business Solutions from 2008 to 2011. John'sconsultancy work focused on developing business cases, strategies, and innovation solutions in areas such as smart cards, fare payments for transit/rail, and mobile payments.

In addition to this, John has held leadership positions at companies such as MatchMedia, where they developed in-store media solutions, and Keycorp Pty. Limited, where they served as the Global CTO/General Manager of Innovations and Technology. John also worked as the President at Signal Processing Solutions, where they designed and developed biomedical equipment, and as a Senior Systems Engineer at Indal Technologies and a Research and Development Engineer at XL-Tek.

John Smerek's education history is as follows:

From 1994 to 2000, John Smerek attended McMaster University and pursued a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. During this time, they were a PhD candidate.

Prior to that, from 1987 to 1990, they also attended McMaster University and obtained a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Biomedical.

Before their time at McMaster University, from 1981 to 1986, John Smerek studied at Kettering University. There, they earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Additionally, in August 2013, they obtained a certification as a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) from the institution CMC.
