John Smerek has a diverse range of work experience spanning over two decades. John currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Lineten since 2020. John also worked as the President at Signal Processing Solutions, where they designed and developed biomedical equipment, and as a Senior Systems Engineer at Indal Technologies and a Research and Development Engineer at XL-Tek.

From 1994 to 2000, John Smerek attended McMaster University and pursued a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. During this time, they were a PhD candidate.
Prior to that, from 1987 to 1990, they also attended McMaster University and obtained a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Biomedical.
Before their time at McMaster University, from 1981 to 1986, John Smerek studied at Kettering University. There, they earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
