Joao's academic credentials include a Postgraduate degree in Marketing and Finance Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, earned between 1989 and 1991, as well as an undergraduate degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo, completed in 1982.
