Ramakrishnan Pillai

Ramakrishnan Pillai has a diverse work experience spanning over multiple industries. Ramakrishnan currently serves as the Head of Product Security at LivaNova, a global medical technology company. In this role, they focus on securing the implantable, on premise, and cloud solutions provided to clinicians and patients.

Prior to LivaNova, Ramakrishnan worked at the Health Sector Coordinating Council - Cybersecurity, where they co-chaired the Legacy Devices Task Group. The group published recommendations to secure legacy medical devices and prevent them from becoming legacy through secure design.

Ramakrishnan also served as the Chief Product Security Officer & HIPAA Security Officer at Elekta, a position in which they founded the Elekta Product Security Organization. Ramakrishnan implemented various cybersecurity measures and supported the organization in achieving SOC 2 Type 2 and FedRAMP audits.

Ramakrishnan's experience also includes working at Coalfire, where they led the healthcare risk advisory group, providing advisory, assessment, and compliance services to covered entities and business associates in the healthcare industry.

Additionally, they have held roles at Cisco, where they played instrumental roles in the delivery of Cisco Connected Health services, developed healthcare security offers, and led global delivery of security professional services.

Earlier in their career, Ramakrishnan worked at Wipro Technologies, Charleston County Government, CMC LTD, and Vi Microsystems Pvt. Ltd., where they held various technical and leadership positions related to network and security, software development, and engineering.

Ramakrishnan Pillai is currently a student at Gies College of Business - University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from 2018 to 2023. Prior to this, they obtained a B S degree in Information Systems from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. Ramakrishnan also holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Kerala. Additionally, Ramakrishnan has obtained various certifications in Marketing Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, HITRUST CCSFP from HITRUST, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from (ISC)², Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control™ (CRISC) from ISACA, CCSE NGX from Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd, and participated in the Federal Emergency Management Course from FEMA. Ramakrishnan also holds an ITIL V3 Foundation certification from EXIN.
