Joseph Scantlebury has a long and varied career in the public, private, and philanthropic sectors. Joseph began their career in 2003 as a Staff Attorney at the Youth Law Center. In 2005, they moved to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as a Senior Program Officer for US Program Advocacy. In 2012, they became a Member of the Board of Directors for both the National Corps Network and the Association of Black Foundation Executives, where they were also a Fellow of the ABFE Connecting Leaders Fellowship. In 2013, they joined the Board of Directors for PENCIL and became a 2014 Pahara-Aspen Fellow. In 2015, they joined the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as Vice President for Program Strategy, and in 2021 they became the President & CEO of Living Cities.
Joseph Scantlebury attended Cornell University from 1980 to 1984, earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial & Labor Relations. Joseph then attended New York University School of Law from 1988 to 1992, where they earned a Juris Doctor degree. Joseph is currently enrolled at New York University, where they are expected to complete a Master of Public Administration degree in 2021.
