Jorge Moura Sampaio

Jorge Moura Sampaio has a diverse work experience in the field of bioengineering and science communication. Jorge is currently working as a Bioinformatics Engineer at Loka since October 2022. Previously, they served as a Senior Scientist in Antibody Discovery at iBET - Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica from April 2018 to September 2022. During their time at iBET, they also worked as a PhD Candidate in Bioengineering from January 2018 to April 2022.

In addition, Jorge has experience in science communication as they worked at LYRIS from February 2022 to July 2022. Jorge has also contributed to the quality assurance of Portuguese higher education courses as an Auditor at A3ES from January 2022 to June 2022.

Prior to these positions, Jorge was involved in the MIT Portugal Program. Jorge worked on their PhD project in Bioengineering Systems from January 2018 to April 2022 and completed an Executive Master in Bioengineering Systems from January 2017 to December 2017. Further, they conducted stem cell research at Instituto Superior Técnico from July 2015 to September 2016 as part of their MSc thesis.

Jorge started their professional journey as a trainee at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência from September 2013 to October 2014.

Jorge Moura Sampaio has a diverse and well-rounded education history. Jorge obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Bioengineering from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa from 2017 to 2021. Additionally, they pursued a post-graduation program in StartUp Research at the Nova School of Business and Economics in 2020.

In 2017, Jorge attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for an International Workshop on Innovation, Strategic Planning, and Entrepreneurial Ventures. Prior to their PhD, they received a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biotechnology from the Instituto Superior Técnico between 2014 and 2016. Their undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Lisbon, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from 2010 to 2014.

Complementing their academic achievements, Jorge also holds various certifications. In 2023, they obtained the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS). Prior to this, they received a certification in Design of Experiments for Bioprocess Optimization from UCL Engineering in 2019. In 2018, they completed a course titled Introduction to Python for Data Analysis offered by CodeAcademy. In 2017, Jorge participated in the International Workshop on Innovating (IWI), Strategic Planning, and Entrepreneurial Ventures offered by the MIT School of Engineering. Lastly, in 2011, they obtained the Certificate of Proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge.
