Rex Markel has extensive work experience in healthcare information systems. Rex started their career in 1988 as a Senior Clinical System Task Coordinator at Daniel Freeman Hospitals, Inc. Rex later became a Registered Nurse and worked as a Clinical Staff Nurse and Part-Time Charge Nurse at the same hospital. In 1998, they became a Project Manager at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, where they managed the installation of McKesson-HBOC STAR software. From 1999 to 2000, they worked as a Systems Analyst at Daniel Freeman Hospitals, Inc. In 2000, they started working as a Senior Applications Analyst at St. Vincent Medical Center and later at Daughters of Charity Health System. From 2004 to 2013, they worked as a Sr. Implementations Consultant at Quadramed Corporation, where they were responsible for analysis, development, and project management of tools and training for healthcare professionals. In 2013, they joined the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services as a Principal Information Systems Analyst.
Rex Markel, MHA, BSIS, RN, has a Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration - Leadership from Bellevue University, obtained between 2006 and 2008. Rex also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from the University of Redlands, obtained between 2001 and 2003. Furthermore, Rex Markel has an Associate of Arts degree in Nursing from El Camino College, obtained between 1981 and 1988. In addition to their degrees, they are also a Registered Nurse, certified by the State of California in February 1989.
