Maarten Vanvolsem

Maarten Vanvolsem is a highly experienced lecturer, researcher, and artist currently serving as the Head of Audio Visual Arts and Vice Dean for Education at LUCA School of Arts since January 2016. Additionally, Maarten is an affiliated researcher at the Lieven Gevaert Research Centre for Photography at K.U.Leuven, where involvement has been ongoing since September 2004. As an independent artist since July 2000, Maarten combines artistic practice with research. Previous academic positions include being a docent at Sint-Lukas Brussels from October 2006 to December 2015 and a researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academie from January 2001 to December 2002. Maarten holds a PhD in Fine Arts from KU Leuven, completed in 2006, and previously pursued doctoral studies at Newcastle University in 2004, following a Master's degree in Photography from Sint-Lukas Brussel in 2000.
