Scott Rubin

Chief Marketing Officer at Lux Capital

Scott leads brand, marketing, and communications for Lux Capital and provides strategic counsel to portfolio companies to help them promote and protect their public profiles. Lux’s belief that scientists, technologists, and inventors will create the future from the seemingly impossible is a natural fit with Scott’s lifelong dance between the worlds of art and science.

Prior to joining Lux, Scott led brand and communications at Atlassian, where his teams won numerous awards for their creative and high-performing approaches to storytelling. He is the former Chief Marketing and Chief Communications Officer at Tanium, an endpoint management and security company.

Lux is not Scott’s first tour of duty in venture capital. He was previously a partner at Andreessen Horowitz, where he focused on public relations and marketing for the firm and an extensive range of portfolio companies.

Before moving into venture capital, Scott held multiple roles at Google. His last position was as global head of corporate communications. He was formerly the London-based head of communications and public affairs for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He also split his time between the public policy and communications teams at both Google and YouTube, focusing on controversial content on the companies’ platforms, including censorship, freedom of expression, and the sexual abuse of minors.

Prior to Google, Scott ran his own communications and public policy consulting firm in San Francisco and Madrid, with a range of clients from semiconductor companies and the Spanish Royal Navy to micro-lettuce growers and social science think tanks.

In keeping with his art and science fascination, Scott earned his AB at Harvard University, with a concentration in Literature and a (very unofficial) secondary focus in Primate Anthropology. He received his MA from The Writing Seminars (Fiction) at Johns Hopkins University.

When he’s not at his desk, Scott keeps bees and grows apples, pears, plums, and figs at Lazy Dog Farm, his century-old family farm in Sonoma County, CA.
