Johnna Sundberg

Machine Learning Scientist at Macro-Eyes

Johnna Sundberg is a Machine Learning Scientist at macro-eyes. Johnna is an international development practitioner-turned-data scientist devoted to increasing equity in opportunity across the globe.

Johnna first became excited about the power of Machine Learning and AI applications in international development while working for One Acre Fund in Kenya. At One Acre Fund, she built and operationalized a model to predict loan default through the Uptake Data Fellows program. She continued to self-study and build machine learning models to improve One Acre Fund’s impact and efficiency, such as using satellite data and unsupervised clustering to create area-yield crop insurance zones and identify new areas for program expansion.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Johnna worked at Spark MicroGrants in Uganda and Rwanda as a Princeton in Africa Fellow and following her fellowship as the manager of the Monitoring and Evaluation and Data Management teams. Johnna graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a degree in Mathematical Economics.

Johnna is an avid learner and when not studying machine learning enjoys playing classical piano, making homemade ravioli, and keeping her French, Spanish and Swahili fresh.
