Lu Chen has had a varied and impressive career in the sciences. In 2008, they were an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an Manufacturing Manager Assistant Intern at Schering-Plough Research Institute. In 2009, they were a Graduate Research Assistant (Master) in Tissue Engineering Lab at the Illinois Institute of Technology. From 2011 to 2017, they were a Scientist I (Bioanalytical) at CSL Behring, a Safety Engineer at Intertek, and a Research Scientist/Engineer at LifeFoundry, Inc. In 2020, they became an Associate Editor at Current Protocols in Protein Science, and in 2019, they became a Research Scientist at Manus Bio, where they currently lead a commercial program developing a novel high-value chemical. Her roles include project planning, ideation, experimental design, execution, gene discovery, pathway construction, proof-of-concept, protein expression tuning, protein engineering, strain engineering, metabolic engineering, and developing sampling and commercial strains.
Lu Chen obtained a Master degree in Biological Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2011, after studying there from 2009 to 2011. In 2012, Lu Chen obtained a certification in Analytical Method Development and Validation for Therapeutic Proteins from KNect365 Life Sciences. In 2013, Lu Chen began studying at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and in 2018, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Biochemistry.
