Executive Creative Director at Margle Media

Emily Johnson has over 20 years of work experience, with a focus on design and art direction. Emily currently serves as the Executive Creative Director at Margle Media, starting in April 2023. Prior to this, Emily worked as the Associate Creative Director at Element from August 2021 to March 2023. In this role, they managed a team of 11 designers, art directors, photographers, strategists, and writers, and was responsible for developing innovative and effective strategies for over 40 clients across various industries.

Before joining Element, Emily held the position of Deputy Design Director at Chicago Magazine from November 2015 to July 2021. As the Deputy Design Director, they oversaw the design of the monthly magazine, commissioned and art directed photo shoots and illustrations, and managed a team of designers, developers, video, and web editors.

Prior to their time at Chicago Magazine, Emily worked as an Associate Art Director at Billboard from September 2014 to November 2015, where they were responsible for designing all facets of the weekly magazine, as well as commissioning and art directing photo shoots and illustrations.

Emily also gained international experience as the Associate Art Director at The Hollywood Reporter from June 2007 to September 2014. In this role, they were responsible for designing all facets of the weekly magazine and managing the festival daily team. Emily also art directed, designed, and produced daily film festival magazines in various international locations.

Earlier in their career, Emily held the role of Art Director at Shout Factory from December 2005 to June 2007, where they art directed music and home video entertainment packaging and marketing materials. Emily also worked at EMI Music Marketing as a Designer from July 2004 to December 2005, where they designed packaging and marketing materials and served as the head of the digital art department.

Emily's career began at Move.com (formerly homestore, inc.) as a Digital Designer from September 2002 to July 2004. In this role, they designed web marketing materials for home.com and collaborated with outside advertisers to build custom web-based ad units.

Throughout their career, Emily has showcased their expertise in design, art direction, team management, and the development of innovative strategies for clients across various industries.

Emily Johnson attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1997 to 2001, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Art with a focus in graphic design. In addition, they attended the American Intercontinental University London from 2000 to 2001, where they pursued a degree in art with a specialization in graphic design and photography.
