Luís Roque

Luís Roque has a diverse and extensive work experience. Luís is currently the Head of Data at Marley Spoon, where they lead various teams in driving data-driven decision making through machine learning, data science, business intelligence, and data analytics. Luís'sresponsibilities include scaling high-performance data teams, implementing machine learning and data architecture, and optimizing conversion rates through A/B testing.

Prior to Marley Spoon, Luís worked as a PHD Researcher and Researcher PHD Student at the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto. Luís focused on exploring probabilistic machine learning and deep learning models for time series forecasting using large datasets. Luís'sresearch has been published in academic conferences, and they have also shared their knowledge through live workshops and open-source code.

Luís also served as the Data Science Lead Expert & Coordinator of the Data Science Masters program at Nuclio Digital School. Luís created the program covering various data science topics and was responsible for its development and delivery in Portugal and Brazil.

As a Contributing Author at Towards Data Science, Luís has published numerous articles on Bayesian statistics, deep learning, and college-level statistics with Python. Luís'sarticles cover a wide range of topics and provide valuable insights into these subjects.

Before their current roles, Luís co-founded and served as CEO of HUUB, a logistics platform for fashion brands. Luís successfully grew the company, secured significant investments, and oversaw its acquisition by Maersk. Additionally, they worked at Parfois, where they designed forecasting and optimization models, and at SONAE, where they managed key supply chain projects.

Luís Roque pursued their education in a variety of fields. Luís obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto in 2010. Following this, they completed a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Engineering/Industrial Management from the same institution between 2010 and 2014. In 2015 and 2016, Luís Roque attended Porto Business School for a Post-Graduate Program in Business Intelligence & Analytics.

Continuing their academic journey, they enrolled at Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto once again in 2017 and completed a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering in 2022. Additionally, in 2019, Luís Roque participated in an Executive Program on Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies at Esade.

Apart from their degrees, Luís Roque obtained several certifications as well. In 2016, they attained the Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD): Web Applications from Rumos Academy - Microsoft. In another instance, Luís Roque pursued further education in AngularJS through EDIT. - Disruptive Digital Education in 2017.

Furthermore, Luís Roque has a certification in Deep Learning: GANs and Variational Autoencoders, but the exact timeframe of when and where they obtained this certification remains unknown.
