Danny Goodwin

Danny Goodwin is the current Senior Editor of Search Engine Land at Marketing Land. Danny has extensive experience in the field, having worked as the Executive Editor of Search Engine Journal from June 2016 to January 2022. In this role, they helped grow pageviews from less than 1 million per month in 2017 to 3 million per month by 2021 (peaking at 3.5 million), which contributed to increasing company revenue by 500 percent during the same period. Danny also wrote 70+ news articles, ebook chapters, guides, and how-to articles that accounted for more than 2.2 million pageviews.

As Search Engine Journal’s strategic editorial compass, Danny set its mission, vision, and voice. Danny developed and executed an audience-centric editorial content strategy that aligned with other Search Engine Journal priorities, products, and teams. Danny also ensured that all published content aligned with Search Engine Journal’s overall mission, target audiences, and brand style guide. Danny represented the publication within the industry by providing commentary to other blogs/publications/podcasts, maintaining a presence on social media, and attending and speaking at industry events.

Danny led an internal team of 8 and helped build a team of 100+ contributors, made up of industry experts, practitioners, and influencers . Danny served on the Search Engine Journal Leadership Team, collaborating with all other teams (SEO, sales, design, and marketing). Danny was also responsible for hiring and personnel decisions (e.g., screening and interviewing candidates, liaising with HR on hiring tasks); coaching (mentoring and training editorial team members via regular 1 on 1s); performing employee reviews (yearly evaluations on direct reports).

In 2019-2020 Danny also hosted The Search Engine Journal Show (formerly Search Engine Nerds) podcast. Danny moderated at SEJ eSummit, a virtual conference, as well as advised on programming for the events.

Danny Goodwin has an Associate's Degree in Journalism from Northern Essex Community College.
