Barbara Bufe Heidolph has held various roles in the food industry since 1978. Barbara Bufe began their career with Monsanto Company, where they held various roles including Principal, Senior Research Specialist, Research Specialist, Sr. Research Chemist, Research Chemist II, Research Biologist II, Research Biologist I, Co-op, and Intern. In 1995, they moved to The Nutrasweet Kelco Company as a Principal. In 1997, they joined SOLUTIA INC as a Principal. From 2000-2003, they were a Principal at Astaris LLC. Barbara Bufe then moved to ICL - Performance Products LP in 2005 as a Market Development Manager. In 2008, they became a Principal Scientist at ICL Food Specialties. From 2014-2017, they worked at Innophos as a Director of Technology, Technical Service & Development and Director of Commercial, Applications & Product Development. Since 2021, they have been the Vice President of Innovation and Quality at Mason Dixie Foods.

Barbara Bufe Heidolph began their educational journey at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General. Barbara Bufe then continued their studies at the same university, completing their Graduate Studies in Biochemistry.
