Joe Johnston

Joe Johnston has over 20 years of work experience in the field of software engineering and development. Joe has held various roles in different companies such as The MathWorks, CareerArc, RR Donnelley, Oracle Corporation, ATG, Taskboy.com, Leostream, O'Reilly Media, and CS Information Technologies.

In their current role as a Principal Engineer at The MathWorks, Joe works in the Simulink part of MathWorks in the SBTools group as a team lead. Joe develops distributed web applications to enhance application developer workflow and productivity tools to measure developer effectiveness.

During their time at CareerArc as a Senior Software Engineer, Joe successfully moved two core SaaS applications to Amazon Web Services, implemented SAML/Shibbolith integration, automated libreoffice to generate superior PDF/DOC files, used Twitter API to send job alerts to users, modified the release management system for AWS Cloud, and implemented business intelligence reporting.

Prior to that, while working at RR Donnelley as a Developer 3, Joe implemented the second generation SaaS application to replace the core Ruby on Rails one. Joe also designed and implemented an Atom-based subscribe and publish model for content discovery and delivery for the NG platform. Moreover, they configured Amazon CloudSearch and S3 for the new platform.

At Oracle Corporation, Joe worked as a Principal Consultant where they created custom solutions for Oracle Optimization Service customers using Java and Python. Joe developed custom Salesforce integrations, custom web services with Django, and utilized MySQL and Oracle for data access.

During their tenure at ATG, Joe served as a Senior Consulting Engineer, assisting clients in integrating their websites with the ATG Optimization Platform. Joe also worked on integrations with Salesforce and IntelliResponse using Django and APEX. Additionally, Joe was responsible for in-house training for new releases.

As a Consultant at Taskboy.com, Joe helped companies find solutions using various tools such as SQL, Web, Perl, Java, and PHP. Joe has experience building traditional desktop applications as well as web-based ones.

Working at Leostream as a Senior Software Developer, Joe was part of the team responsible for designing and implementing the core Connection Broker product. Joe also worked on agents and clients for the Linux and Mac platforms using Perl and Java. Additionally, Joe handled front-line customer support and office IT infrastructure.

Joe's earlier work experience includes a role as a Senior Software Engineer at O'Reilly Media and as a Software Engineer at CS Information Technologies, where they developed software solutions and helped transition the internal data loading system to a Linux-based object-oriented Perl system.

Joe Johnston attended Cape Cod Academy from 1980 to 1989, earning a high school diploma. From 1989 to 1990, they studied English at Boston College. Joe then pursued a degree in Computer Science at UMass Boston from 1995 to 1998.
