Steve Hambalek

Regional Technology Director at Mattson Technology

Steve Hambalek has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Steve began their career in 1974 as a Strategic Microwave Repairman in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, where they gained expertise in communication electronics repair and eventually led a small team responsible for the installation and maintenance of mobile communication sites.

After leaving the military, Hambalek joined Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector in 1979 as a Systems Specialist. There, they worked in a semiconductor wafer fab and received extensive training in technical subjects, including Six Sigma methodologies. Steve specialized in rf systems, plasma etch tools, and sputter deposition systems.

In 1989, Hambalek transferred to Tegal Japan Inc, then a Motorola subsidiary. As a Senior Process Engineer, they installed, developed, and maintained plasma etch processes in wafer fabs across Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, and China. Hambalek also ran the Japan applications lab, where they processed customer sample wafers to showcase Tegal etch systems' capabilities.

Hambalek joined Steag CVD, Steag Electronics in 2000 as a Senior Process Engineer and successfully ran a beta site project in a Japanese wafer fab for Steag's first RTCVD system. Steve later moved to Mattson Technology Inc in the same year as a Sr. Process Engineering Manager. In this role, they managed the process applications department for Mattson's plasma products group, served on technology review and intellectual property boards, and achieved success in running a beta site for Mattson's newest tool in Japan.

Hambalek worked at PG&E from 2012 to 2019 as an Energy Solutions Engineer, based in the San Jose office. In this consulting role, they identified energy efficiency projects for commercial, industrial, and high-tech customers in Silicon Valley. Steve performed energy analysis for data centers, clean room facilities, and HVAC systems, modeling savings for proposed energy efficiency projects and establishing the basis for incentives and financing.

Currently, Hambalek is the Regional Technology Director at Mattson Technology, a position they have held since 2019.

Steve Hambalek has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. Steve also has experience and training in Project and Program Management from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Additionally, they received training in Communication Electronics from the United States Army Communication Electronics School.
